Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

My 11 week bantam chicks are getting the hang of the cube ladder, all but two go to bed on their own. However at what age have you all put the roosting bars back in?

My 20 week old Pekins are in a cat box. I've put a perch in for them to roost on which they sometimes sit on in the morning when they're waiting to be let out, but they sleep cuddled up together on the bedding - never on the perch

My 12 week old bantams were on the roosting bars and really had to get used to them. But the first days they just huddled in the nesting box. They made do.

No I don't use perches at all. I personally think they cause more problems than they are worth

 

If adding perches for youngsters don't be tempted to add narrow 'mini' perches, use proper roosting bars or a good chunky bit of wood 1.5inches wide minimum (unless using Omlet bars) basically the same size as you'd use for an adult bird

Thanks Redwing, I wondered why you had said never. It would be the cube roosting bars but think I will wait as they are happy on their aubiose in the trays. I am hoping to start integrating with the older girls when they are about 20 weeks, have got two cubes so will be interesting to see where they all decide to sleep.
