Just in case you dont know. We didn't.

If you own a van, we have a VW T5 and the spare wheel is stored under the van- at least it was. It's been stolen and we weren't aware until today. Not cheap to replace so very annoying. Apparently they are quick and easy to nick but for about £20 you can get a tyre lock to frustrate thieves. Guess what we are going to get.

Sorry to hear that Jude - the rotters will thieve anything! My old van had the tyre suspended underneath as well, but the 4x4 has it inside - bot so easy to get out when you need it, but less easy to nick.

I mine nicked from under the transit about 4 months back trouble with transits are the spare wheel is in a cradle that you wind up and down on a cable so it only takes a few seconds to cut with a battery powered dremal type of power tool

Oh no what a pain for you both.

 

I had a car I think it was the Cleo and that had the wheel underneath too. Perhaps cars are closer to the ground making it more difficult. I know around here there was a time when they were taking CATS from 4x4 as they were higher up making it more accessible.

a lot depends on how easy they are to buy and how much they cost new or second hand in my case been a front wheel drive transit their dam near impossible to get from a s"Ooops, word censored!" yard and as it's a dealer only part they aren't that cheap new plus there's the cost of the tyre on top plus the spare wheel carrier which is a mega price for what it is
