Panacur v's Flubenvet

Recommended Posts

So I have used Flubenvet 1% since I got my ladies. I used the Marriages pellets shortly after we rescued them, and the powder since.

This didn't get rid of the tapeworm two of the girls came to me with, so I have had Panacur 10% at .1 ml a day for 5 days from their vet. This seems to have done the trick and oh my goodness it is so much easier than Flubenvet. Three little drops in a small portion of mashed sweetcorn, once a day and the job is done. No worrying about whether or not they are getting the full dose, or keeping them in prison for a week. My vet advised no egg withdrawal either.

I love it as a wormer. It is so, so much simpler the Flubenvet and I am now confused as to why that is so popular. I know Panacur is not licensed for poultry, as Flubenvet is, but there is a new version out that *is* for chooks (Panacur Aquasol - virtually impossible to get at the moment though as it is so new).

Can anyone enlighten me as to why Flubenvet is the drug of choice please? I'm looking forward to the responses :-)

Probably as the Flubenvet was licenced for poultry and if there is a product with a licence then the vets have to use it unless there are indications for using something else. Also the panacur Aquasol is only newly licenced this year for poultry =also for pigs and I think it is available only in a 1Litre bottle so far as I am aware - I am sure that they may make a smaller one for back yard chicken people - I think its really for larger outfits. It sounds good though and looking forward to using it.

Edited to say - look at the price of it!!
