auntielizzie
For the first time since I started keeping chickens three and a half years ago, I'm nearly out of eggs I'm down to the two girls and one is moulting so stopped laying and the other one seems to have stopped laying in sympathy I've got three eggs left then after that if they don't lay, then I'll have to go on an egg-free diet I can't bear the thought of shop bought eggs

auntielizzie
Ah yes, but I've promised myself new chickens in the new year already I'm hoping to get these two through their moults and through the winter, then planning on up to four new girlies!!!! I keep daydreaming about what to get - I'm thinking wellsummer, light Sussex and Wyandotte/s Roll on spring! OH just needs persuading........ Beantree
We bought some free range eggs once because ours weren't laying. Never again! They were completely tasteless! If I had been blindfolded I wouldn't have known what I was eating. So we went without. The solution was to get more youngsters who would lay through Winter. The alternative is extra light in the morning but we tried that and the resulting mess and expense wasn't worth it. So get some more hens Auntielizzie. sjp
...and another egg today...could it be she's started again because she's healthier having just been wormed? I've had at least 3 start laying this week I think ones my Easter hatched LS and one's a 2 year old CLB cross that's not long gone back in with her little group after having raised 4 chicks her, sister's was laying up to bonfire week but I hadn't found any of her eggs since then until 3 days ago but I think she's hiding eggs and I'm not sure who's the 3rd one yet not bad really as I didn't expect eggs until after Christmas even through the LS had started to crouch voluntarily for Fred her cockerel last week just wish her CLB 'sister' would start to lay she's been crouching best part of 6 weeks
