soapdragon
I have read this series avidly for the last umpteen years. An amazing story with huge historical sweeps. Sensitively written and beautifully observed. Each book eagerly awaited OH now tells me it available on screen via Amazon No, no, no. The characters are inside my head and don't match to those on screen at all! Can't bear it! I have had these people inside my head for the last 15 years and here they are poping up on screen looking NOTHING like they should What to do? Watch it and feel sad that the story isn't quite right and the characters don't look as they should (according to my own imaginings) or not see it and wonder how it has been portrayed? Agggggh! Has anyone else followed this series and, if so, what do you think
Chickpea
I'm a huge fan of the books and for me the series did not disappoint!! By the end of the first episode I was hooked, the character of Jamie is really well built up over the episodes and I thought the actor portraying him was excellent. Black Jack Randall makes your skin crawl and thought he was very well acted. My only slight criticism perhaps is that Claire's accent is very RP, but as she's meant to be from the 1940s and stand out as an outlander, perhaps it was intentional. I think I watched the first 8 episodes available in 2 days! (and what a cliffhanger!) Give it a go, for the beautiful Scottish scenery if nothing else! soapdragon
I can only think of Jamie as Liam Neeson with red hair - knife edge nose etc!!!-and have Francesca Annis down for Claire! However, given your review I may be tempted to watch.....didn't like the casting of Lord John either but having lived with these people in my head for the past twenty odd years its hard to 'let go'!!!! Scotland is beautiful and amazing so maybe I'll pluck up courage!!!
soapdragon
Have just started watching thi as OH got 30 day free Amazon Prime so we are now desperatly trying to get through all the episodes before it runs out!!! YES, YES, YES!!!!! Apart from the fact that Jamie is too short and his nose isn't right (SO pedantic !!) its great! The costumes alone are worth watching for but the characters are well cast and the scenery fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone interested in history! Olly
I thought this was going to be something about sewing! Never heard of it but you've got me intrigued. I feel the same about Game of Thrones - loved loved loved the books, and I'm not sure if I can watch it although I've been given Series 1 as a present. This sounds interesting, might go and look it up.
Cinnamon
Oh but you MUST watch Game of Thrones - the best thing on TV for ages! I loved the Outlander books too, & would eagerly view a TV series, but we don't have the Amazon thingy, only Netflix & iPlayer

We are trying to get through two episodes a night but they are an hour each and a lot of them We certainly won't be taking up Amazon Prime after the free trail runs out so Mystic Soapdragon forsees some late nights ahead

soapdragon
Personally, Margaret, I think he should be taller but the hair colour is right! hHis 'manner' is just as I had imagined too! Claire is spot on as is Jack/Frank Randall. Hope you enjoy it!
Margaret
Just brought it, OH away so will feast my eyes for hours, with a large glass in hand.
Margaret
Finished it.... at 1am, insomnia was really bad last night and OH snored terribly so only had 2 half hours sleep, but never mind. Loved the DVD, imagined Jamie to have longer, darker hair, but was so true to the book, which I think I read around 20 years ago. Oh my the wedding scene Beautiful.
