Should I pander to them?

Recommended Posts

I feel like I'm constantly asking questions this month - sorry but here's another...

When I first got my girls I fed them D&H layers pellets. I don't want to continue with these because a) they're expensive (if bought from pets at home anyway) and b) the last lot I had was really dusty.

Over the early part of winter they had some own brand pellets from my local merchant at £6 something for 20kg which went down ok but not great. Then after the last worming with marriages with Flubanvet I just fed them in the old Flubanvet pellets to use them up. They ate loads of these and clearly really liked them.

For the last few weeks since the marriages ran out they've been back on an own brand pellet. They don't eat nearly as many of them and in the grub which has a mix of own brand and the last few marriages they've flung the pellets everywhere and I'm pretty sure they're trying to dig out the last few marriages.

Question is, do I stick with the cheaper pellets - even though I know they aren't eating as many - until they finish the bag (only four bantams so it'll be months), or should I buy a bag of marriages because I know they prefer them? Is it possible that this aggravated Bernie's crop problems?

I have found mine are not very fond of the D&H. Thankfully they were emergency rations. Mine love Marriages and will hopefully wolf down the worming pellets.

I can get 20kg Marriages between £9.50 and £11.50 from my local farm shop depending on the price of grain. Everyone has different preferances but I think they are happier eating a food they enjoy. The difference in the prices isn't huge. Your call but I will be getting mine back on Marriages ASAP!

I guess if they are scattering and wasting the cheaper pellets then it's not very economical anyway. If you want to use them up a swirt of cod liver oil mixed in will encourage them, mine love when they have it in cold weather.

I use Fancy Feeds for bantams and it is £7.50 for 20 kg and think it's good quality.

My girls much prefer the Marriages pellets but I have no local stockists so currently the girls are on D&H until I find an online supplier of Marriages
