Solitary chicken - need advice

Hi my oldest hen has laid the odd softie then went alright. Then i thought she had stopped laying.no i caught her eating her egg straight after she had laid it. She dosent eat any of my other girls eggs just her own. How can i stop her as will she start eating all the eggs??and will the other hens join her and start eating the eggs??help

One of my exbats did this. She now shares with the other exbat and 2 bantams. She doesn't eat their eggs.

One of my old ex commercial girls doesn't lay very often but when she does she eats it. I think it started asthey are old girls and the shell quality is poor, when they do the tap test(all hens do) and its soft maybe it wouldn't be a viable egg they eat it and it becomes a habit. She doesn't eat anyone else's and I think the only thing you could try is bumpa bits but I'm not sure that would work.

I have heard that some people cull the offending hen....not me, she can have it if she wants it that badly

Thanks for advice no way would i cull her she is lovely and as long as she only eats her own egg i havent a problem as hafe 4 eggs aday from yhe rest of my flock xx

That is what I would do.

But try oyster shells and vit D

I have one doing this. I supplement their diet with natural yogurt and a splodge of cod liver oil and that works. The cod liver oil aids absorption of the calcium. When I forget to give it, she's back to eating her eggs.
