Help please. FURTHER UPDATE

Recommended Posts

In car at shops on phone so will be brief.

Winnie not laid for 4 days. Yesterday hiding under the next box. Followed Eglutines (sp) instructions for egg bound. Nothing.

Today still moped and I found what looked like a brown crust bit on vent. Pulled it and out came what looked like 2.5" egg white. She has messy vent. Is it EP?

Will post pic later. OH'S birthday and I am cake making this afternoon.

I've got one who has laid a few lashes lately. She's quite old for a hybrid. She stops laying for a while after, then we have softies. Eventually she lays again but the shells are sometimes quite thin. She's fine once she's passed the lash. You could try some tuna, sunflower seeds or limestone powder. All are good for strengthening shells and chickens well being :)

Finally had time to upload and post this:

20150512_125811_zps8tpstjmz.jpg

It's on the car steering wheel. It's about 3" long and 4-5 mm wide. The darker bit was the bit hanging out of her vent and when I pulled it, (I thought it was something stuck on), all this came out.

She is still not herself. She runs from me and that is NOT normal for her.

It looks like a lash to me, it's just another word for a shed oviduct. Maybe she is running away as she is scared your going to pull something out her rear end again

Joking aside, just see how she is over the next few days, obviously if she takes a downward turn then it's a trip to the vets

Just been watching her. She is huddled and standing like she needs to poo - you know when the knickers drop exposing the vent briefly? Well she is standing like that constantly. Barely walking yet OH says when he let them out she seemed normal. Don't know :(

Looks like egg membranes to me. I have to ask ..... Why have it on your steering wheel?

Looks as if she is having a blip with her laying tackle. it sounds as if she is working up to laying a soft egg. Might be worth taking her to a vet if things continue.

Looks like egg membrane to me as well, but there is rather a lot of it which says to me that something is very wrong. We had a bantam Leghorn last year with similar symptoms. When I felt her abdomen it was firm and I could feel something solid inside. It became apparent that there was a whole egg inside her and she was pts immediately. Her oviduct had split and the whole shelled egg had dropped inside. Think you need to check Winnie's abdomen immediately PixieDust because she may be laying internally and be in a lot of pain.

There is a softy quite far up. No fluid in the abdomen. Good colour in wattle and face. Not thin. He believes the white thing was an egg.

She has had a shot of calcium in the breast which should expidite the softy within 48 hours. Fingers crossed :?

Edited to say consult £17.95, calcium injection zero!
