mullethunter
My girls are moulting so I thought I'd give hem a treat of some tuna because I bought some for myself. It wasn't until after I'd given them the second half of the tin this evening (they had the first half two days ago) that I realised it was in brine. It's the kind that doesn't need draining. I feel terrible and now I'm really worried I could've od'd them on salt. The Pekins hardly ate any (having eaten loads last time - so maybe they were avoiding it because of the salt) so I guess the Wyandottes ate quarter of a tin each tonight and slightly less 2 days ago. Is there anything I should do other then make sure they have plenty of water?
Olly
I doubt it'll do them any harm, obviously it's not ideal but the amount of salt in a tin of tuna won't do them any harm as a one-off.
mullethunter
You're probably right Olly - that's what OH said. I hope so.
Lewis
I wouldn't worry too much! I usually use tune in brine and rinse it under the tap but not too strict about it.
Mars
Mullethunter Eat a full tin today, if you are alive tomorrow, your hens will be fine
mullethunter
Thanks Mars They are fine but not sure if your logic is sound - I'm a bit more than 4 times bigger than the chickens!
The Dogmother
Not ideal, but give them plenty of water and keep an eye on them.
