LeahNaomiAdams
I have just got 4 beautiful Pekin Bantams who are roughly 20-24 weeks old. When do pekins start to lay and will the change in environment mean they take longer because they are settling in? They all seem happy and are making lots of noise together. Thank you! mullethunter
My Pekins were 10 weeks old when I got them. One started to lay at 24 weeks, the other at 10 months! So I guess you never know!
LeahNaomiAdams
Great thank you! I'm so excited to open the nesting box and see an egg that I'm probably being impatient! How often do your girls lay?
mullethunter
Once they get going the Pekins are roughly every other day. I think they laid from Feb to October last year with the odd break, so pretty good going. I'm sure it'll tail off as they get older. Their eggs are about half the size of a large hen egg. Shop bought medium eggs at the top, pekin eggs in the middle, Wyandotte bantam eggs at the bottom
Ursula123
I have one Pekin who lays 6 days out of 7, one who lays every other day and one not laying yet. I was told they were two year old when I got them in December.
LeahNaomiAdams
That's great! More than I expected and they are such a lovely colour egg too! I'll just keep being patient
Luvachicken
Once they start going red in the face and crouching - although I have one who doesn't crouch at all - can help you tell if they are going to start
