Words of wisdom required

Advice needed for the following.

I recently put my Classic on eBay, It was put on at a buy it now price or best offer for 7 days. Around the third day a guy contacted me to say he wanted it but didn't know how he was going to get it as he didn't drive, I offered to pack it up and he could arrange a courier to collect or for a fee I would deliver it. He thought the £60 I was asking for delivery was too much but it would be a 150 mile round trip for me, he said he would investigate other options. The auction finished without it being sold, two days later I get an email from him asking if still available as he had suddenly been busy and missed the end of the auction and that he still wanted it and was trying to find a way of collecting it but was going on holiday for a few days and could I phone him. I emailed back to say yes still available and to contact me on his return.

He emailed later that week saying could I arrange a courier and told me where to leave it if no one was home and once again could I telephone him, no mention of payment. I emailed back to say I would require payment before collection or delivery and did not hear anything from him for 10 days. Last night I get another email asking if I still want to sell it to him and could I call him, again I ask for payment and I have just received another email asking me to telephone his mobile.

I prefer to contact via email as it is then all documented. Also not keen on calling strangers.

I suspect he wants me to call so I will drop the price. Surely if he wants it then he would have either asked for my PayPal details or an address where he could send a cheque. It does not appear he wants to pay cash as he told me where to leave it if no one home.

I think I will tell him I am going to relist it and if he wants it to hit the buy it now button. Do you think this is a fair solution or what would you do? At least then it all goes through eBay.

Timewaster!

Re list it, state collection ONLY....don't get tempted to offer courier collection or delivery as it is invariably a nightmare. You often have to wait in all day for a courier to collect from you.

What if it is delivered, no one is home & the payment isn't there?

I don't like phones either & always conduct all my business via messages or email. Its handy to have a 'hard copy' of any agreed arrangements too.

Also if he wants to buy off of eBay (as in directly from you not through the site) you can get penalised pretty heavily by eBay as this is fee avoidance.

Stick it on a Buy it Now...........if he wants it that much he will click the button then pay you 8)

Forgot to say I am happy to pay the eBay fees, as would prefer it all to go through them and it is of no benefit to him if he buys privately as he will have no fees anyway.

Ah yes, but he can ask you to knock the fees you would have paid off of the price you are asking :?

It happens all the time.

House viewings went well. Well ok. We found one we loved but it was sold out from under us :roll::twisted:

Came home to find our house sold on 1 day for the full asking price, so we either need to find somewhere quick now or just rent....

Do not deal further with this man! Alarm bells are ringing very loudly! Just relist - and, as Cinnamon has said, don't even offer courier; collect or nowt! I don't E Bay as much now as I used to but my modus operandi is to use auction format starting at the minimum I would be happy to accept on the basis that anything else is a bonus!

Also I would ask for collection within a specific number of days of end of auction otherwise item will be relisted. As you say, best to sell through E Bay as you do, then, have some protection but I feel that this first 'buyer' is nothing but trouble!

Hope you sell quickly for a good price!

I agree - relist it (I'm amazed it didn't sell) and tell him I he wants it he must buy it through eBay.

He's either not serious about it or he wants to lower the price, either way he's going to be a nuisance. I'm always very suspicious as soon as someone tries to take it outside the eBay site

I had a few more emails via eBay from him and also from his partner, asking me to call as they really wanted the classic. My OH decided to call him and politely ask to stop emailing but if he wanted it genuinely then to make payment, much to our surprise he was so excited about getting an eglu that he asked how we wanted payment and would do whilst on the phone, apparently he prefers to speak to people.

So yesterday we delivered the Eglu and it will be a community project for a small group of flats, a couple of the children were there and the look of excitement on their faces was priceless. :)
