bluekarin
I am baking a cake for my sisters 40th birthday party tomorrow, amd I have forgotten to put all the sugar in, and its in the oven, baking away Its this one http://www.completelydelicious.com/easyrecipe-print/3180-0/ and I managed to get all the brown sugar, but not the other sugar. I only realised when mixing cake number two, and it said "add all the sugarS" that I realised my mistake. Do you reckon it will be ok? Apart from not being as sweet, which is no bad thing considering the buttercream and ganache topping, but I am worried about the chemical reaction working ok between the sugars, fats and eggs. I have a feeling I may be making another one on top of these two. So pleased I am baking them now, and not tonight like I usually would
Blackrocksrock
Hopefully it will be fine if it has some sugar - if they look ok then you are good as the filling and topping will help it and better not to have too much sugar anyway - fingers crossed it will be ok!! edited to say recipe looks fab
bluekarin
Yes, it looks fab on there. What I have in the kitchen cooling on racks is not so. Lots of buttercream will sort it I feel
mullethunter
Looking at the recipe you've effectively halved the sugar. I reckon if you use plenty of icing and keep quiet no one will notice
ubereglu
How does it look?
bluekarin
Awful! Just a crumbly mess. I currently have a Mary Berry choc gateaux in the oven in a bundt tin ( easier to cut for lots of peeps) and am making the buttercream from the first recipe. Fingers crossed it all works
mullethunter
Did you eat it? How did it taste?
bluekarin
My daughter had a piece of the low sugar one and she said it was yummy. I have frozen the other two for home use another day. The current cake rose really well, but when I sliced it, it was very crumbly. I think I am going to not make chocolate cake for a while as I seem to be doing something wrong It is currently sat in the fridge with a thick layer of coffee buttercream all over which was not the plan as its a bundt cake and I wanted the pattern to show. Just going to see if thats set enough to smooth a bit before topping with ganache and a box of Bendicks chocolates
ubereglu
Icing and additional chocolate covers a multitude of sins!
