Car insurance for new drivers

Recommended Posts

If you recall a few months ago I posted up on the forum about 1st time cars for a new driver, now comes the tricky and expensive job of insurance!

I finally passed my driving test late September, and am now about to buy my first car-not a model I was originally thinking of, as I have decided to purchase my sister's 2010 Vauxhall Corsa, 1.2l petrol. I've run my details through the likes of GoCompare, Confused, Moneysupermarket et al, including my Dad as a named driver, and the cheapest quote is £925 through Admiral, whereupon I would be required to install a black box.

Having looked around I think this is fairly reasonable, but do any of you have any suggestions as to who may be cheaper, or whether a black box is actually worth it?

have a look at Churchill and there are a couple more that don't always come up on compare sites might not be any cheaper but it'll give you a bit more scope

but most charge high rates for new drivers the type of car can add to the cost as well

as for the cost of the black box that'll depend on how much it'll save you on the cost of the premium over the next year or 2. personally I'd want at least £200 a year before I'd even think about it
