Surfacing and portabiilty (or not) of walk-in run?

Recommended Posts

Hope someone can assist! We were considering getting a low-rise or high-rise walk-in run to attach to our Eglu Classic, using a run attachment. At the moment, our run is 3m long, and it's relatively simple to move it and the Classic from place to place around the garden and allow the grass in the previous place to recover. If we purchase a walk-in run, I'm presuming that we won't be moving it around the whole time but will be finding a site for it to live on a more permanent basis...because I'm presuming it's not so portable? Should we be thinking about laying down wood chip? We have four bantams at the moment. Thanks all!

I have a 3 x 2 lo rise WIR and I don't think you'd want to move it in one piece. It might be possible if you had at least 4 people but it would be very difficult and I definitely don't think you could do it whilst attached to the Classic run.

So yes, you are looking at a permanent base. Lots of people use wood chip (I built a 'patio' and then put the run on and filled with hard wood chip), something like aubiose or horse bedding, or sand.

If you have 2 of you, you should be able to move a 2x2m section between you easy enough IMO - but you wouldn't want to keep moving it around.

When we finally get our garden re-done in the spring we are going to pick a permanent spot for it and then lay down a 'patio' area on which we'll set the run. and the bedding etc.
