Emma137
Can I ask some advice please? I have 10 ex bats. 3 are new and 7 I got last spring. Of the existing 7 - one isnt very well and the other 6 look fighting fit - but they are not really laying! I get 1 or 2 a day. They all seem to go into the nesting box for periods of time but still not really laying with any regularity! They are wormed regularly and well fed & gived acv and other supplements regularly aswell as fruit & veg etc. I got more eggs over the winter months than now and thought it might be while they were moulting but its been like this for a few months. Do you think it might be their age? They were about 18 months old when we got them so maybe theyre just at the end of their laying! Any help would be appreciated. Olly
If they are battery hens and they are now more than 2 years old, then it is most likely that they have reached the 'hennopause'. You've eliminated all the other likely causes e.g. worming, feed etc - the reason the farmer gets rid of them at 18 months old is because laying is less consistent after that age. You may still get the occasional egg however.
