The Avian Flu Prevention Zones put in place across England and Wales earlier this year have today been lifted.

As of 12pm on 25 May, subject to there being no new outbreaks of findings of AI in wild birds, the prevention zones in England and Wales are no longer in place.

This means hen keepers do not have to continue following specific disease prevention measures; however we do recommend you maintain high levels of biosecurity.

This can be achieved by doing the following:

  • Keep your coop area clean and tidy and regularly disinfect hard-standing areas
  • Clean up any food spillages
  • Minimise movement in and out of bird enclosures
  • Keep footwear clean

Great news :)

People have been moaning about it on social media, it's not that we had to keep chickens in this time, just increase biosecurity.

DEFRA can't really win, people moan if nothing is done and moan if they're being proactive. They're clearly working hard and taking the threat seriously, it's not like they forgot about it for a few months. The Updated Risk Assessment shows there was a Buzzard found positive on 18th April...
