how do they see???

 

i mean... can they see everything or only things that move

 

i was bored amd thought i'd ask

intresting question which i dont know the anwser to - sorry!

but i do know that my chicken (blinky) who is 20 weeks old now - when i stand in front of him (about 2 meters away) she comes running to me

Odd but interesting question. I'd like to know that too... They must have pretty good eye sight to be able to pick up insects and small particles of food etc.

I wonder if they see in colour? Hope someone knows

I don't know ... like most birds (owls excepted) they can't see directly in front of them, they have to turn their head to one side to see.

 

Mine are about 50-60' up the garden, and they definitely know when I open the back door (BAWK-bawk-bawk-bawk-bawk) as they think there are treats coming. That might be hearing the door as well as seeing me, though.

I read somewhere that they can't see in the dark. Can't remember where though. Something to do with not having rods or cones or whatever in their retina.

Ours are at the bottom of our 100ft garden and can see you through the window in the house if you look out. I think they have much better eyesight than we do cos they see bugs and eat them before i even blink!

I read that too Egluntine. I thought that is why they go to roost as the light fades.....

no they definitely cannot see in the dark. Hubby works nights catching chicken as its easier then as they dont move.
