One of my girls who shall remain nameless, has taken to eating the eggs of the others.

 

This morning I caught her waiting in the door of the eglu, and when Sam came out she went straight in, and by the time OH had shot down stairs and got to the eglu she had broken the shell

 

I wondered if a bumper bit or anti peck ring would stop her? or shall I dig out some mustard and birds eye chilli flakes

Apparently, a bumper bit will stop her breaking the eggs, as it protects the egg/feathers from the sharp pointed part of the beak.

I wonder if using one of those rubber eggs might put her off? Same principle isn't it - but instead of getting a mouthful of something nasty, her beak bounces back at her!

Interesting to read this post Karen. I've had 4 or 5 broken eggs over the last few weeks that look like they've received a good peck. Not sure who the culprit is. I've been trying to collect the eggs as quickly as possible after laying but I don't always get there in time. I'm hoping it will just stop........(this is my head in the sand solution...).

I now have visions of her boinging off the egg as she tries to peck it
