Chick Chick
I have finally got some Pekin and some Silkie growers. I am keeping them in an Eglu classic and I'm wondering if I should take out the roosting bars until the hens are fully grown or if they should manage now? Any opinions appreciated thanks. Chick Chick
Just to answer my own question they are absolutely fine with the eglus roosting bars 😀
The Dogmother
Yes, they will be fine. They only really struggle with higher roosting bars, as you'd find in larger wooden sheds. Pekins aren't so bad, but neither silkies or frizzles can fly, so they can't flap up onto high perches.

Consequently both of the hens eventually had to be put to sleep at the vets, After that I took the Roosting bars out and my last hen lived happily with no foot problems .. That's interesting - I have been keeping Pekins (amongst others) forever and never had this problem with any of the Omlet housing.
