Wow they’re lovely 👍.  I keep fish too but tropical.  Have a tank with discus.

I'd *love* a Discus tank, but aren't they legendarily difficult to keep?

We have 14 discus of varying sizes and so far so good.  It was very confusing at first as the advise we was getting was very conflicting.....especially about the water.  Some said it had to be soften water and others disagreed.  We settled on tap water👍.  We haven’t had any problems so far (touching some wood🤪).

Both of your tanks look amazing!

I have a 60l tank we set up about a month ago with a few Platies and Mollies in, I love watching them and wish I had room for a massive tank.

Mollies and Platties? You'll have a million fry in a few months. lol I found the the issue with Mollies was trying to get them *not* to spawn!

Are they tank bred, do you know? I'd LOVE these. I have an RO unit for my sal*****er set-up, so I could always use the water from that.

Yes they are tank bred ...we found a discus specialist not far from us and he gave us a fair amount of advise.  Yes you could use that RO unit👍.  I would love a marine tank but someone once said that they were very difficult to keep and you needed a very big open wallet??😲 although that was about 15 years ago.

That’s a lovely natural looking tank .....your plants look really healthy .  We found it hard to find plants to withstand the 28-30 degree heat that need.

I looked at Chen's Discus for some, which are lovely. I don't have anymore space for them right now though.

Getting a Marine tank set-up properly can be quite costly. I have a 5ft tank, a sump, fancy lighting, fancy pumps, the RO unit, and a decent skimmer, and I think with the rock and sand included, it's probably cost me about £1,800 - before the fish! But you can do it cheaper if you want. You can also do it a lot more expensive: I know someone with a room divider tank which I believe cost about £5,000 in itself - and then he has some fish which cost £1,500 a piece!! I'd want to know they were immortal for that much money. lol

If you have a fish only tank like mine, then once everything is set-up, it's not really any harder to look after than any other kind of tank. The only complication is that you have to mix up sal*****er when you do a water change... but that's about it.

I think if our discus went pear shaped then I think we will go marine. We are now 10 months in with the discus and 8 weeks prior to that with the tank /water setting up. They actually appear to know you and come to the front of tank ......makes it so rewarding. £1.500 per fish 😮 I’d want a lake full 🤪
