Digital camera advice pls

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about buying a new digital camera. Feel a bit guilty because I already own one BUT mine is 10 years old, very heavy to carry around not

many pixels, whatever they are :?: and does not come with a USB cable so I can't use it with my Mac. I have been thumbing through the Argos cat. and I

am so confused :? so I thought I would consult you guys because all your pics are very impressive.

So, it has to be lightweight, come with a USB cable and I would like to keep the cost around £100, and it has be be idiotproof  Anyone using one

that they are very happy with?

I will freecycle my old one, I promise :)

I wanted a digital SLR but after borrowing my Stepmum's Fuji Finepix I bought one of those instead. It is an F30 and is absolutely brilliant. Excellent writeups and was just over £100 through Amazon. They seem to have discontinued it now, but their is an F20 here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fujifilm-FinePix-6-3MP-Digital-Camera/dp/customer-reviews/B000HKBCQ4/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_top/202-6094623-0453458?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&customer-reviews.start=1&qid=1192978561&sr=1-8#customerReviews

You need to buy the memory cards as well, but even these are really cheap from Amazon. Fuji seem to have a great reputation for pocket digitals, I am very impressed with mine! And the battery lasts forever on one charge.

Fuji Finepix all the way for me too.

I have had 2 of them now & they are outstanding 8)

The daughters have them too.

My current one is an ice pink metallic Z3, & is amazing - I love it.

Easy to use, lots of great options to try out & a really high pixel count for sharp photos.

There is a GORGEOUS hot pink one in the new Boots catalogue :P:P:P

we bought a sony cybershot back in august. Great camera and so easy to use - yes even I can use it!! it has functions where you can take pictures in the snow, fireworks etc.

The megapixels are 7.2 and it has 3x optical zoom, I believe the higher the optical zoom the better quality photos you will get and more professional looking photos. mind you the higher optical zoom camera's are usually the really expensive (wedding photographer style) cameras.

With ours its just point and shoot - easy peasy. :)

Thanks snowy, sounds just what I am looking for. A friend of mine has a

Fuji, not the same one, and she is very pleased with it. I will look and see if

Argos do it, I have bought electronic stuff from Amazon, but it is a pain if

things go wrong, whereas Argos have a no quibble take it back service.

I would argue your last point. I've bought stuff from Argos, queued up for hours to take it back having had to make a special trip to the store and then still had aggro off some spotty teenage assistant. All my Amazon returns have been free and quickly and smoothly handled. Including the digital camera that went wrong ELEVEN months after I bought it - they replaced it with a newer model as mine had be discontinued. If I'd bought that from Argos I'd have still been looking for the reciept but from Amazon it was all right there online!

There's one at Bluewater!

Mind you I've bought all my digi cameras off Amazon except the last one which I bought in New York. The people in the shop there couldn't have been more helpful!

Only problem is the charger is a US plug and I've gone and lost the adaptor which they threw in. I've used it since I got home so no idea where it is now.

And the battery is flat, but the spare is fully charged. Trouble is I think the spare is with the adaptor!

I saw that Sarah, and was very impressed, I so wanted to buy it, only £130 too :D . But I've got a perfectly good Olympus Muji, which I find easy to use. Lots of features, which hubby fiddles around with for ages, and does get some great shots, but I do the point & shoot thing and my pics are OK too.

Penguinmad......... you mentioned Bluewater :D . I live about 10 mins from there, and can regularly be seen wandering around (daughter went there almost everyday of the summer holidays, only missing the 5 days she spent at Camber  . If you do venture across to this side of the water for a spot of Christmas shopping or whatever, do please drop me a PM  . I'd love to meet up with you and James for a coffee and a chat :D

I'll let you know when we are coming. We do most of our shopping at Bluewater and have to make regular Xmas trips to see the Reindeer too! Last couple of trips have been too crowded for Mum though, she has to get a motabilty scooter now and people just ignore her completely, I'm walking along and she can't go as fast as me because people seem to want her to go around them and through other people! Last week we were heading for Bluewater and there was a huge jam on the bridge so we diverted to Lakeside where there was no scooter booked, we didn't walk inside for more than a few hundred yards and Mum paid dearly the next day.

Bluewater is horrendous for getting overcrowded, although I have to say that their crowd control is good. Daughter went with a group of 15 mates one Friday evening and they were politely told to seperate or leave as groups of 16 teenagers can be intimidating. Son leaves his hoodie at home when he goes :lol::lol: .

As I say, let me know, I'd love to meet you and your Mum as well :D:D:D

I am a huge John Lewis fan but I often find on the smaller items they are beaten by the online guys. But I bought my big telly there and right now its showing the GP at last!

We bought a TV for the bedroom this weekend - awfully decadant I know, but we just had a big cheque in so why not?

Anyhow, we went to Tesco for it as we couldn't face the weekend Reading traffic.

The girl serving us was AWFUL - didn't have a clue about the Tv or warranty, rolled her eyes when we said we wanted the TV which meant she had to get it from the stock room, and forgot to put the Clubcard through.

I had the join another queue for the points

Just finished my letter of complaint to the meneger. We were spending over £500, & were served by a complete numpty wh wanted to chat with the boy staff rather than serve us.

I will wait til Monday & go to JL next time.

Sorry. Rant over :oops::roll::lol:

You should so have waited. When I bought mine I spent ages deciding and got advice from about 3 salesmen who all conferred with me. OK it was substantially expensive (like 3x what yours cost!) but that was a year ago.

Oh and it was delivered and set up for a small fee - the set up fee was more than worth it. I had it delivered the DAY I MOVED IN! In fact - it was sitting there set up when I arrived! (Mum moved in to the annext the day before)
