suzi
I have some carrot tops and am sure I have read hens can have them.I know they shouldn't have long grass because of risk of impacted crop, but wanted reassurance on the carrot tops. Mine are in a large run so dont have access to grass, although occasionally I pick a small amount for them which they love. Suzi

Cate in NZ
Hi there Suzi, I've done it for you . Not sure about carrot tops, I'd try and make sure that they're cut to short lengths myself because of the risk of impaction.
Guest
Mine LOVE carrot tops. I give them to them when my veg box arrives. To be fair, they seem to peck bits off as carrot leaves have lots of bits to them. I also give them fennel tops which are more feathery and beetroot tops which are definitely leaves. The Jazz Girls
Ours love carrot tops. We lost a hen to long grass so I always take out the long fibrous bit in the centre but, after that, they fall on them like there's no tomorrow. Egluntyne
I thought this was going to be a thread about chickens having an aversion to people with red hair!
Carol U
Think mine must be a bit strange. They won't touch any part of a carrot. If I mash even the orange part in with other things, they will carefully pick it out. Carrots and onions are the only things in the veggie garden that they leave alone. Cinnamon
The best thing to do with carrot tops is to cut them off, then pack them into one of those square mesh feeders that is used to put fat blocks in for wild birds. They can only pick of smallish bits at a time then
Lesley-Jean
I tie them up as a bunch and they can just pick the leaves off. Similar effect to the fat block holder
