daj198
Maybe a different routine stressed them out so they laid less.
Ain't Nobody Here
I had friends looking after mine for 8 days - they got NO eggs at all (only one was laying but we got 2 every 3 days). I was hoping she was pining for me - but she's not started again yet so I suspect it's just the time of year.
beach chick
oh gosh - and here I am thinking it was lurrve!
Snowy
Mine always seem to lay less when we are away and they pick up again a few days after we return. I figure they don't like their routine being disrupted!
Ain't Nobody Here
That gives me hope! Don't think hubby was impressed that we might not get any eggs at all over the winter . If my other 2 haven't started laying yet, is it likely that they won't ever (before Spring)?
Jules.
Mine have been at BIL's since Sunday.... I haven't asked him if he has had any eggs
daj198
I heard that Pure Breeds do not lay at all in the winter and hybrids lay less in winter. Not sure if it's true though.
Aunty e
Not so my friends, although mine did all lay less, in their first laying season, we were still getting five eggs a week from each of the hybrids, and the araucana showed no noticeable drop off. My welsummer is still churning them out. Not the legbar though. Useless bird.
Boris70
i've had no eggs from my pekins for 3 weeks now - only one has laid all summer the others went predicable broody and then gave up - same last year too. The ex-batts are still laying well - 1-2 eggs a day from them - fingers crossed they won't stop over the winter - as it is quite a novelty having eggs still! Aunty e
Oh, yeah, the pekins gave up ages ago. I don't really count them anymore, we never know what to do with the eggs when we have them. I ended up baking endlessly, and I HATE cake. Although it does make the house smell nice. Hmmmmm, might bake when I get home tonight.
