Shirl
I have one who tends to be quite quick and another that will sit for a good couple of hours before she lays.
Janty
Forever. Or that's what it feels like in our house. Six weeks and no eggs. I've had several chats but they never listen.

feemcg
If you mean to lay an egg, it varies - I have one who'll sit for over an hour and one who's in and out in the blink of an eye
Guest
One of ours takes a good hour. The other one lays before we open the cube in the morning! She sleeps in the nesting box and we can't really stop her otherwise she lays on the bars and the eggs sometimes break.
Larkie
I've had my 2 girls for 5 weeks and no sign of an egg yet. I heard on the telly that handling chickens can cause them to stop laying - could it also stop them from ever starting? My husband is threatening roast chicken this Sunday if somthing doesn't happen, so I really need some help
tenzin
The longest mine have ever sat laying is 1 and a half hours it's a little sad monitering these things but im GUILTY
jomaxsmith
My Coral is new to laying and she can take quite a few trips to the nest box before she lays. She often disappears into there for about 10 mins at a time then comes out without having done anything. I think it takes them a while to get in the swing. Your hens are new, aren't they? When I got mine a fortnight ago the Coral was already laying but the man at the poultry centre said we would probably get the eggs that were already in her system (a couple of days worth) then the shock of the move would either stop her for a couple of days or make her give us double yokers.
