Ain't Nobody Here
Had my christmas party last night. What a load of rubbish. Me and 2 friends decided to meet early to have a couple of drinks to get us in the mood (which we decidedly weren't). Came out of the pub to get a taxi to the hotel - had to walk at least a mile before we got one. Found our table - squeezing past the million other tables - took our coats off then went to the loo. All three of us sitting there, doing what you do, when the fire alarm goes off. Not a false alarm, so we ended up in the street - no coats, freezing. Fire engine arrived to a huge cheer. Got back in within 15 minutes so not too bad. Meal - champagne & melon timbale (slice of melon, 3 strawberries & some kind of wetness), turkey & stuff (vaguely edible - lovely sprouts (not) ), cheesecake (quite nice), coffee (tiny). All served within about 3 1/2 minutes. Went to bar - a G&T was £5.85 . Couldn't hear a word anybody was saying as music was so loud. Escaped (literally grabbed coats & sneaked out the door). Had one drink in local pub till friend's husband came to collect us. Home by 11.30. Upside: no sore feet, no hangover, good night's sleep. Downside: £40 for meal, £18 for one round of 3 drinks. We're not going next year.
Snowy
What a rip off! What a shame for you. Our christmas do was quite good for a change, not too crowded, good food and entertainment. But the drinks were extortionate! £4 for a pint of coke and £3.80 for a 75cl bottleof water (alcohol was fractionally cheaper, but not much ) Trouble is they want to pack in as much as possible at christmas as it's when they get most trade. Charlottechicken
Downside: £40 for meal, £18 for one round of 3 drinks. We're not going next year. Yep, that's a rip off alright! We had a 3 course meal at the Hyatt in Birmingham for just £16.75 (the theatre menu ), it was beautiful, choice between 3 starters/main courses/desserts all with veggy option. everything was just right, and I had the creme brulee to finish, which was heavenly!!! The executive chef has filmed with James Martin and is also my colleagues son, so we had extra freebies on top but the 3 course menu is superb! One Man Banned
Well I haven't had a do to go to this year but it's Joe's works night out this evening. I'm taxi for the evening One of local places has a huge marquee up all year (thankfully well heated) and bar and dancefloor and its a meal and disco thing all in one. Was hoping I could have had a night out with my best mate Anita, but as a Pharmacist who works at the branch she's going too !! Still, a meal for one and a bottle of wine for me I think Hic! One Man Banned
Joe's wasnt too great either this year which was a big dissapointment given that we've all been to the venue three times this year and it's been excellent. Must be another case that they're getting too popular and the standards are slipping A xx
