Trish
my Dotty is a maran hybrid (called a cuckoo star by the breeder but there are so many name) and she lays fairly dark brown eggs with very dark spots on them and they are very thick shelled, well they would be if she laid any at the mo. CatsCube
Oh what have you done to me!!! I have just been reading up on the Marans and I want one now! Ho hum, getting a run extension in the new year as Im trying to mimimise garden damage by giving them limited free range of 3 days a week, so the garden can recover a bit the rest of the time, so feel they need a bigger run for the rest of the time. Might be tempted to get a few more chooks then, which would defet the object of a bigger run
Cinnamon
My French maran Bramble came into lay yesterday The egg is darker brown than my other girls & nicely speckled - well done that hen! She is also a very pretty hen - Beetle Black with a ginger head & chest,& amazing deepest brown eyes

CatsCube
Oh Fee I so must have one!!!! Thats now on my chicken must have list. feemcg
......and this is a Silver Wheaten. They both have lovely colouring and the legs are lightly feathered. I had to check before I hatched them how feathered they would be as i can't 'do' feathered feet - it gives me the creeps
Cinnamon
Here is Bramble, posing on top of the blue Eglu She has really pretty colouring, especially when the sun hits her feathers,& has softer feathers than any of my other girls too. As I said earlier, the Franch maran feathery leg gene has skipped her
feemcg
She's lovely! I think it's French Copper Black and Blue you cross to get Splash
Christian
As I said earlier, the Franch maran feathery leg gene has skipped her ] Watch out Cinnamon, Elsbeth the English (cuckoo) Maran, had smooth legs when I picked her up the day before you. Her legs are starting to feather up now, just ever so slightly.
