snaps
Our two Light Sussex are both rising four according to what we were told when we bought them (nearly two years ago now). One, Clover, is in very good health, bright red comb, always first out in the morning and definitely laying. The other, Lupin, is bigger, slower, comb a tad paler and probably not laying or if she is, not as much as Clover. We get 3-5 eggs a week. I suspect Lupin might be older than Clover and wonder if there's any way of telling a chicken's age? I suppose there's not much good looking in their beaks
Egluntyne
The pigment in their legs is supposed to fade as they age, as it is reabsorbed according to how many eggs they have laid. I don't know any details....sorry.
snaps
Thanks, Egluntine, I'll have a look at their legs tomorrow. Trouble is, their legs are white, but there may still be a difference in the shade.
