Hellcat
Ok, I know this is a thick thread, but you'll understand. Have any of your kids go these blessed Tamagotchi things? I get left with Laurens during the day. Drives me crazy, and she goes bonkers if I put it pause. Its got to the stage where when I go out I go 'baby, changing bag, keys, handbag, phone, tamagotchi...' Argghh!
Guest
It's a gadget isn't it? I'd quite like one - just to see what they're like.
Hellcat
Oh boy, get thyself to argos then, chum! they are a little disc with a cyber pet in it. It starts as an egg, hatches, goes from baby - child - teenager (and gets stroppy at this stage too) - adult - married - kid - dead. You have to clean up its poo!! You'd love it. I hate it. But all the kids in her school seem to have them. Apparently they connect together and you can play games with a friend. yawn.
Karen & co.
There always seem to be a trail of parents walking away from school after the morning bell with them, looking rather concerned incase they 'die' while they are looking after them!!! I think I've been lucky as we managed to avoid them last time round and again this time Karen x
Hellcat
She wanted one from the first week in Jan when a friend came in with the Christmas pressie. I am mean, it was just after christmas, so she had to save for it. I hoped she would forget but, oh no, she saved and I had to take her to town to buy one. Good on her for saving for it though! Cate in NZ
Oh, no, we did Tamagotchi's about 2 years ago, drove me crackers- I thought the craze had gone the same way as Clackers, French knitting and Scoobidou's . Please don't bring it back. With any luck daughters getting too old for these daft crazes now
chocchick
I'm sure I remember them in the 90s as well
Cinnamon
I used to work in Childrens World when the first Tamagotchi craze was around. It was hell - people literally fighting over these little toys. Staff were encouraged to own them,so we could talk with authority about how they worked.I got quite attached to mine I will admit to being a bit of a gadget fan,& both of my girls have Tamagotchis that they bought themselves. I quite liked them, they are cute, but got fed up with the bleeping during mealtimes. They did expect me to Tamagotchi sit while they were at school too (the schools quite rightly banned the bleeping things!),but I started charging 20p a day,& they soon got fed up with having to pay Mum to babysit their toys They then put them on pause for the daytime, but to be honest the glow son wore off & the Tamas are now sitting in a drawer waiting for new batteries - which ALWAYS seem to be out of stock (NOT!) clare*
We had to get Ben one lat year. Another Had to have with the usual tears and I'll be the only one in the class without one. Its now buried somewhere at the bottom of the toy box. Drove me mad
Guest
All of my 4 have tamagotchis (at the moment not in favour! ). So sometimes I am trooping round with these pets beeping at me all the time demanding food, cleaning and games! They're quite fun but as a babysitter the pressure is really on not to kill it! I really like the new ones though (which you can pause if you are in an important meeting!) because they can go and play with another tamagotchi and give and receive presents too (sometimes a poo! ). The games are better too.

So I had to learn how to do all these things first to teach her. Picture the scene...8 year old from across the road teaching l'il old me how to scoubidou! The shame! The Dogmother
Kate A, you're right, they seem to resurface every now and then. Rosie had a cheapo one last year - and quickly hated it as much as I did, goodness only knows what she'd be like with her own demanding child She wouldn't sit still long enough to do Scoubidoos. Like Clare* said, there's all this peer pressure to have the latest gadgets, and they end up in the bin a few days later Grd - you don't want one - believe me. Guest
The latest thing here is the Diabolo. the playground is full of them, but the local shops are not. Son has a birthday next week and I have bought one from a shop in Exeter . (I'm in Surrey) Even Amazon isn't selling them, so I don't know how it has become a craze! Mel (& Paul)
Isnt it one of those things that you "balance" on a string - sort of two cones together? They've been around for yonks. Well, nearly as long as grd

Night Nurse
Tee Hee.... I gave two of my Goddaughters some money a while back and they both bought Tamagochis.... Now when I go to visit their Mother during the day, she has to keep getting up and feeding/playing with them etc, otherwise the girls come home and glare at her balefully if she has inadvertently killed them through neglect... Ah, that's what being a Godparent is all about - they have lots of fun with me, do all sorts of forbidden stuff (sweets after brushing teeth, falling asleep in front of videos when I babysit etc) and Mother picks up the pieces!!.......
