Rolo Rabbit
We've now decided against a cuckoo maran and we're thinking about a speckledy or bluebelle. Any opinions?
CatsCube
If your already getting a maran thats your dark eggs sorted so a Bluebelle would give you a nice contrast as their eggs are a pale pinky beige colour. In terms of difference between the two hybrids, they are both the same sort of size and temprement and number of eggs laid. So I think really it will just come down to which you find the most attractive. Fro me personally I think the Bluebelle is just about the most attractive hybrid their is. Cinnamon
Get both - they are both super hens. The Blue Belle is really pretty & they are both consistant layers
feemcg
I've got both - the 2 left from my original 3. They're both friendly and good layers, although Jas, the Speckledy took a bit longer to get going.
Guest
I've got both too and the Bluebelle is very pretty. My Speckledy makes me laugh though and she lays large brown eggs with frequent double yolks.
Egluntyne
Definitely one of each. Both lovely. It will save you the bother of going back next week to pick up the one you didn't take this week.
Guest
Bluebelles are my favourite... They're gorgeous big buxom girls, and mine have always been extremely friendly, reliable layers (frequently of double yolkers) and a real pleasure to have in the garden. CatsCube
Sorry I just realised I misread and I thought you were getting a maran and one other. So yeah I echo the above, get one of each. (were a bad influence on here)
harveypup
Yes both I have a speckledy called Humbug who is very friendly and lays gorgeous looking speckled eggs, I also have 2 Bluebelles Vera and Clover who are totally different personality wise and lay pale creamy coloured eggs. You won't be disappointed with either of them
magamamma
bluebelle's are absolutly nuts. but then so are speckledys. i have both and they are best pals. i love bluebelle a little more though as she is very curious and always sits on the windowsill watching us eat dinner and pecking at the glass for treats. they are prettier too. good whatever you chose really. tell us what you get
ubereglu
I have two bluebelles and they are super hens. They're really friendly and now they've moulted have really soft feathers. They're excellent layers and Muddles lays medium size eggs of a pale brown/pinkish hue and Starlet lays Longish, largish eggs with big speckles at one end!!! They're quite big hens, but gorgeous! TAJ
I stood looking at both when I was buying - I went for the bluebelle as the coat was so pretty and she is my best most friendly hen that is forst to run a great me and will feed from my hand all day if I let her. ...but then you could get both! Chooks Aloud
I've got both and they are both lovely, very friendly. The bluebell is the leader of my trio and is a right little character. I've also got a Miss Pepperpot - who is the shy one. They are all lovely. Karen
