bokbok
I must give my tuppence worth to this. I have only had my chooks for just over a week but I already know my 6 y/o DD , my cat and his friends (at 3am!) , the other birds (blackbirds , crows , pidgions ect..) , next door drilling , are all definately much louder than them. I think they just enjoy finding things to moan about Have you considered getting a cock
Lynn
As much as we would like to make their lives as hellish as they can make ours sometimes, I wouldn't stoop to it. As I said previously she thinks I'm a posh so-and-so, so for now I shall behave like one and remain calm and collected My husband may tell you that that's a first
Egluntyne
As much as we would like to make their lives as hellish as they can make ours sometimes, I wouldn't stoop to it. As I said previously she thinks I'm a posh so-and-so, so for now I shall behave like one and remain calm and collected My husband may tell you that that's a first It's the best way Lynn. I had a tricky neighbour a few years back(nothing to do with noise....nothing to do with anything in fact ). I remained calm and icily civil at all times, whereas she was a screaming nutter at the time. In the end, when I could stand it no longer, both my husband and father were ill at the time and my stress levels were off the Richter Scale. , I involved the police. To cut a long story short she got a warning under the Harrasment Act and has behaved herself since....in fact we are reasonably friendly. I even give her eggs! The police said the best thing to do was keep a diary of events, take photos if appropriate, have witnesses if you can, and above all, give them nothing that they can cite against you. It worked. And under the warning thingy....a bit like a mini ASBO, if she had breached it she would have been looking at 6 months in prison or a £1K fine. I wouldn't have hesitated to make sure that happened if she had continued, either. All the best.....I know how awful it is to have mean spirited neighbours. Lynn
Thank you. The world is full of odd people, just unfortunate that we have a few living next door to us! We have logged a notice with the police, as have two other neighbours. We asked that nothing be done at this time as we don't want to inflame the sitution and make it much worse (this was in response to something that happened to another neighbour of ours, I added to it ), but we have started the ball rolling in keeping a record of everything. It's really horrible doing it as this not who Nick and I are - we are honest and truthful, try to help where we can, but some people just think they can walk all over you because they shout and are intimidating. It's very nasty of me to think like this (after the glowing report I've just given myself ) but some of it has to do with a lack of education on their part. Nick and I have worked really hard for the jobs we do and it almost feels like we should be apologising for it. Grrrrrrrr - some people make me mad !! Lynn
looked for your video but couldnt find it here's a link to my noisy hen video. http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j18/weener10/chooks/?action=view¤t=MOV00115.flv She's a cochin - "supposed" to be quiet and docile - she has just laid an egg. (apologies for picture quality) Have just watched your video - this is exactly what Mrs Wilson is doing at 5am !!

Lynn
Morning, I just thought I would give you an update. Yesterday, I took our noisey girl, Mrs Wilson, to Ben at Hen House Poultry. The noise levels in the morning this week had reached record levels. If we lived in an acre site and we were the only house we wouldn't mind, but living in a new development as we do, it wasn't fair on us or our neighbours. So, Mrs Wilson has gone. It broke my heart to leave her there, she looked so lost and of course, she had been mute for the entire journey. I'm not sure what her fate is going to be and I think that is what is making it worse. I got the impression that if she continues to be as noisey then her fate has been decided and not in a good way. This morning our two girls Penelope and Beatrix let themselves out of the Eglu into the run and it has been so quiet. No squawking or anything, so it was obviously Mrs Wilson cheering the others on to make as much noise as they could in the morning! Nick and I feel we have let Mrs Wilson down - the poor sweetheart. superjules
Oh Lynn, I'm so sorry. You did your best for her and I'm sure she will go to a lovely home. A tough decision to make, you are very brave. If it means you can keep your others it will be worth it. Keep your chin up doll!
Olly
so sorry to hear that she has had to be rehomed, but you have definitely done the right thing - ultimately you have a lot of money invested in your home, and upsetting the neighbours can have long-term consequences. She couldn't help being a noisy chicken, but maybe in her case a suburban garden wasn't the right place for her. She may well behave totally differently in a different peer group, and quieten down a lot. I think you made the only decision you could in the circumstances, and her ultimate fate is out of your hands now. Don't feel bad - enjoy Beatrix and Penelope without the stress of worrying about noise any more. Chicken-keeping is supposed to be fun, not worry! Karen & co.
You haven't let her down, I think she will probably be quite happy, and a lot quieter in a different mix of chooks Enjoy your other two girls Karen x
chelsea
She may well behave totally differently in a different peer group, and quieten down a lot. I think you made the only decision you could in the circumstances. Completely agree. I think now she's gone to a farm with lots of chooks she will probably be totally different, different pecking order etc - so she wont be top chook and probably will be a little more timid! You had to do whats right for you, dont feel bad.
Mirkwood
oh Lynn you havent let her down, please dont think that. If you hadn't done something then you would have posssibly had to re-home them all. I can understand how you feel i really can, but give it time and you will see that you made the right choice.
