Ain't Nobody Here
Hooray yippee Decision made - we need more eggs therefore we need one more hen . I'm going to read up on introducing one new girl but in the meantime will 4 hybrids really be ok in run & converter . They don't get much freeranging 3 days out of 7. Egluntyne
Congratulations. I have 4 hens in each Eglu and have the converter and extension on both. My Pepperpots are huge so I think they need the extra room. I suppose it depends on the type of hen. I seem to remember the advice used to be one hen per section of run. Have you decided what sort of hen to get?
clucky1
How exciting - I am waiting to get 2 more. Hubby keeps on selling the eggs ! Look forward to seeing piccies of your newbies.
chelsea
I should think another hen would be fine. 3 days out of 7 free ranging is quite a lot. As long as you dont get a bloomin gert cochin like mine then you'll be fine!! Bet you cant wait!
feemcg
- what are you getting and where from? (nosey eh?)
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks everyone . Needless to say, this has now taken over my life (not that there's much room left over by the chickens ). What are we going to get? Well, she has to be a different colour to the others, naturally, and also lay different colour eggs . Would also like one that's already laying, if possible. We're going to wait till the Easter hols so I'm at home to supervise the introduction. I'm going to phone a few poultry farms in East Lothian to see what they have. Egluntine, do you have a picture of your girls and your run & converter extension & to give me an idea of chicken to run size ratio? Still a bit concerned they'll be a bit cramped. feemcg
Wow, that's a looooooong run - seriously though the extra length must make a huge difference when adding more chooks.
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks Egluntine - much appreciated . That is one seriously long run . I don't think my whole garden is actually that long . And OH would have a fit . Desperate to phone round poultry farmers but have been at the dentist for our appointments (15 mins) then 30 mins "discussing" why OH was sent a bill for £16 odd for a filling he says he never actually got. The dentist was a stand-in and is away now so it's basically OH's word against the computer . Guess who they believe .
AJuff
Thanks Egluntine - much appreciated . That is one seriously long run . I don't think my whole garden is actually that long . Funny to see such a long run and they all stand together in one space!! Congratulations on expanding your flock! Do keep us informed what breed you choose.
