to worm or not to worm?

Recommended Posts

I use Flubenvet as well.

I mix a spoon of sunflower oil with the pellets and then I add the Flubenvet, so that it sticks to the pellets rather than sink to the bottom. That's also a good way of giving them Chicken Spice, which is great to get them through a moult quickly.

I've been worming them 6-monthly as that's recommended, but I think I will start to do it 4-monthly from now on as they free range so much.

One of the other symptoms of worms you may want to look out for is yawning.

Anyone know how to worm with Panacur? Dosage per hen? Its' a palatable (well, the dog & cats think so) white milky stuff, perfectly suitable for birds of all sorts, wild pheasants are given it on well-run shooting moors. No instructions on the bottle, and the vet will charge £21.50 for the info.

My chooks were done with Panacur last October. The vet did it. he weighed them and put it into their crops with a syringe and tube I'm not sure what the dose rate was but if it is not on the package it should be somewhere on the internet. My girls only had one does each but the vet said If I saw and worms in their poo the they should have another dose in about 10 days time.

1 ml Panacur 10% Liquid contains 100 mg active ingredient Fenbendazole. Flubenvet contains Flubendazole, I don't know how these differ in activity.

I hope that is helpful. BTW the vet charged me £2.12 for the two hens. They're not all robbers

Didn't think so, but wasn't 100% sure. Thank you.

Can hens get worms from other domestic pets if they free range and come across infected poo? or are the types of worms exclusive to cats/dogs and poultry? Too many gross questions. Sorry.

I don't know the answer to your question but believe me the questions get more gross as you read more of the forum!

Hi the symptoms from our wormy hen were suddenly only 1 egg a day rather than 2, then found a softie (1st one) then a ghostly white shelled egg rather than the normal brown, then in my poo i spied some worms :vom: They are being wormed with flubenvet this week!
