chickflick
or is there some in layers pellets?(from omlet). thanks
Christian
You should give them added grit if they are unable to free range in the garden. It helps them digest food as they need it to grind it all up. A small bag lasts forever
Eyren
I give mine grit in the winter when they can't free-range much. A small paper sack of it (from the same place as I buy my pellets) costs very little, and as Christian says it lasts ages.
Egluntyne
It does last ages. I bought a 25kg sack 2 years ago, I have barely scratched the surface, and the packaging got wet one night and disintegrated and so I now have a pile of grit outside the back door. Ash
I got a bag of grit from Jolleys pet store. 69p per KG
WitchHazel
I use a coop cup and have grit permanently available for the girls. Mine seems to need topping up once week, so they are definitely using it.
Egluntyne
Just to say....hens need Mixed Poultry Grit, which contains calcium and pieces of sea shell, not just little stones.
Blackrocksrock
Our country shop sells it by the scoop and I bought a little coop cup to put it in the run
jman2007
Can you just add it to their food or is it best to have have it on its own?
Egluntyne
You can do both....if they don't want it ...they will leave it, aif you mix it with their feed, and you will find a little pile of it at the bottom of the grub. I give mine a plantpot full in their area, to which they can help themselves. You can use pots like **these** in the run.. You can buy them singly.
