WitchHazel
Tell old miseryguts that you wouldn't do anything to jeopardise him selling his house, because then you might get some nice neighbours. (Sorry, not very helpful but I couldn't resist! WitchHazel's advice is much more constructive.) ..but yours is so much more how I would really feel! chickenanne
It's sounds so unpleasant and unneccessary. But I wonder how much of the time people are really just trying to have a polite/quiet word, but feel wound up/defensive and come across badly? OK, there is nothing they can "do" to stop you keeping chickens, but perhaps all they want is some sort of neighbourly compromise? EG, potted plants around the run area, or keeping the chickens in the house longer in teh morning to keep them quiet or whatever. I'd echo the advice that you go round and speak to them calmly and ask them how you can reach some sort of amicable agreement, given that you will be keeping the chickens. If I had a problem with a neighbours dog/cat/child /etc then I'd try to discuss it with them face-to-face and see how far I got before making a formal complaint; I wouldn't be doing it to bully them but because it's a nicer way to treat people. I agree that it does seem insane to suddenly get so worked up about chickeny-noises at all, especially after 2 years! And you do have to expect some neighbourhood noise no matter where you live.
