We've got two pekins a few months ago for the first time. I couldn't resist them they are so cute. They're the friendliest chickens by far and great for my two young children to stroke.

 

Mine haven't started laying yet but we didn't get them lay more for their looks.

 

In think broodiness can be a problem but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!!

Well, since they tend to be very friendly and easy to tame, checking for scaly leg mite shouldn't be that hard - though I haven't tried mine yet!

 

They are definitely good for first timers, providing you don't expect year-round eggs! My Esme is laying almost every day at the moment, but they tend to stop in winter - and of course there's the infamous broodiness :roll:
