KimW
Is it an electrical device, how does it work?
Christian
It affects the hearing of foxes Kim and is tuned specifically to their hearing. So shouldn't affect cats/dogs as far as I know. You can get battery or mains powered.

feemcg
I'm going to get a mains lead for mine - I need to replace the battery every 1-2 weeks - I should have bought a lead with it, for the amount I've spent on batteries
Phosphorus
Are the Foxwatch products good? I have thought about electric fencing but we have quite young children (5 and 3) and not sure the youngest would keep away from it. Foxwatch sounds ideal if it works - we are in quite a foxy area Andrea
Egluntyne
I certainly think they help....but I wouldn't rely on them totally.
mayflower
I bought a foxwatch several weeks ago but have'nt set it up yet, as my hens are not ready to go into an outside run yet..... some have no feathers, and the weather is too cold for them at present. According to the info, unlike other devices, the foxwatch only sounds when a fox approaches. So the idea is that, the fox will relate the sound to his presence near hens and move away. From the same firm I bought a rat and mouse ultrasound deterrant, which I set up 2 weeks before getting our hens in the conservatory. I think it is working because every Spring I am visited by mice when I've sowed my beans into trays. So far no sign of them, thank goodness. Olly
I definitely think the Foxwatch works as a deterrent, although I would not rely totally on it. Fee, do you have yours pointed towards the hens so that it goes off when they move? That might be why the batteries are going down quickly. I have mine behind the Eglus, to cover the fox's most likely route through the garden, so it is only triggered when I walk in front of it when I'm cleaning out or collecting eggs. I expect it is set off by the cat, other nocturnal visitors etc, but the batteries in mine last a couple of months usually.
Tessa the Duchess
We had foxes in the garden day and night I bought a Foxwatch and have never seen one since. I also bought the mains adaptor. I also don't totally rely on it and supervise all freeranging from the kitchen window. It's a drag and so not what I envisaged when I first got chickens, but better to be safe than sorry I guess Tessa
KimW
Will my dog be affected by it? Will it also work on rats? How do you know when the batteries have run out?
Egluntyne
Will my dog be affected by it? Possibly Some Omleteers have reported that it has affected their dog, others that it hasn'y. Will it also work on rats? [ b] Probably not as their hearing will be on a different frequency.[/b] How do you know when the batteries have run out? It makes a little clicking sound when the batteries are working, and there is an orange glow at night from the sensor.

Tiggy
dont rey on it, at first I was impressed when I saw a fox near my run looking really upset & ran away but in the last few months I have had 2 devestating attacks in broad daylight
KTee
I am sorry to say mine was a TOTAL waste of money. I posted a pic on here a few weeks ago showing fox droppings ON TOP OF the Eglu just a couple of feet away from the Foxwatch which was pointing directly at it. I couple of days earlier I had seen muddy prints where the fox had been lying on the Eglu, the Foxwatch was switched on on both occasions.
