hilda-and-evadne
My cousin "predicted" that I would have a real Easter egg, and so it came to pass, exactly four weeks since Hilda and Evadne arrived. I went out at 4.00pm this afternoon to give the hens a bowl of warm porridge with a little poultry spice and then thought, "I'll just check the eglu" and there it was: small but complete with shell and uncracked. I gasped, I was so surprised - it is just like a conjuring trick. I brought it indoors and showed it to the dog (who likes a soft-boiled egg very much indeed but he's not having this one!). I will eat it, with all due ceremony, for breakfast tomorrow. On edit: oh, the weight - a bit less than 50gms - my kitchen scales are not electronic and not sensitive enough for this important record keeping. Olly
Isn't it amazing when you find the first one! I still feel a little thrill every time I open the eggport and there are perfectly formed eggs in there.
Phewtus
I think we have some very clever little chooks! Had our second this morning 2 in 2 days both the same weight. My hubby had suggested feeding ours on cocoa nibs to see if they laid choccy ones!

':)' I am already thinking about two more hens. I will leave it to the summer but I know what I'd like - a Black Rock (or Light Sussex) and a Bluebelle. They will be named Miss Mapp and Lucia. Sarah B
Congrats on your special Easter egg! What a whopping size for a first one! I'm so jealous that I had to make do with Cadburys mini eggs
