cluckbok
Hi ya, We had to buy a new hutch for our 4 guineas yesterday and I was really pleased because it has a slide out tray to clean them out with a grid above, so they walk on the grid (meaning you don't have to take them out the hutch to clean them). But shock, horror , I just found out that the grid hurts their little feet and can cause sores, the grid is meant for rabbits as they have bigger feet. So what I have done is just gone out there in the dark!! and removed the grid and they are now living on the slide out plastic tray with newspaper and bedding on top of that. Just checking they will be ok on the slide out tray bit won't they? I presume that for guineas you were meant to remove the grid and that they can live happily on the plastic tray bit, it's got a wood surround and slots solidly inside the hutch. Secondly do you know if you can bed guineas on auboise, or is it too fine for them causing breathing probs?? I've not put them on that I've got them on the usual wood shavings or paper bedding. I don't think you can but just want some advice. Sorry for the long post but appreciate any replies. Thanks.
BooBoo
They should be fine on the plastic tray, newspaper and bedding. As long as the tray is safe, secure and fox proof. You need to ensure its warm enough for them in winter though - I wouldn't think a plastic base would be as good as wood for warmth. As for bedding - I'm not sure - i think some people do use it, but I would wory that it would cause them breathing problems. I'm sure its been discussed on the forum before somewhere
cluckbok
Oh no worries about the winter they throughly spoilt, they come into my warm conservatory. I only put them out last night. They have got a hutch hugger on it as well. Will just stick to the usual bedding, it's not worth risking anything else. Thanks for that. SarahJo
I have the school pigs in a hutch at home. They are used to being in a Plant room, and have been in the garage at home now for 2 weeks. Their hutch is "plastic" with a removable plywood floor - maybe you could jigsaw a similar plywood floor for the Rablu. Then I use shavings/paper. Normally they are in an indoor cage - but have loads of funtime at lunch, with a huge run to play in, and copious amounts of attentiion. Hope this helps - cannot comment on the Aubiose, sorry.
