Chooks Aloud
One of my chooks is laying soft shelled eggs. Limestone flour has been recommended on the forum. Dolly is the only one out of my 5 chooks that is laying soft shelled - do I just give her separately the limestone flour, or just mix it in with their tea/treats so that they all have it? Do you give this on a regular basis? Dolly's shells have always been a little on the soft side (when you break them they just crush, rather than a straight break, as the others eggs). How long does it take to work? Any other advise gratefully received. Thanks Karen
Egluntyne
Hello...I give it to them all. I just mix a TBSP into a full grub of pellets. Since doing this we haven't had a single softie and there is an improvement in shell quality.

Chooks Aloud
Thanks - I have just rang SPR who said they have the flour in stock. £4.95 for branded 3kg or 2kg bag £1.00 which they bag themselves. Hubby on his way to get some. Fingers crossed that it works. Do you put this in their feed everytime as a preventative, or only when there is a problem? I only ask as the girl at SPR said to give the flour cautiously as it can eliminate phosphates. Is it better to put it in their grub or in their treat bowl late afternoon (this gets hoovered up)?
