Talk about an efficient start to the day...

OH left for Sweden at 5am this morning... got up at 4.30 to have a cup of tea with him while he was eating breakfast, then found I wasn't sleepy enough to go back to bed... Was lying in bed thinking of all the laundry I have to fold up today (as some of you may be starting to know from my revious posts, laundry and I have a daily, intense, roller coaster emotional relationship )... so got up, got dressed, and started... first time ever I do laundry at 5.15 am... I'm now nearly done, kids are still asleep, and I look forward to having the rest of the day without laundry to fold up!!

 

Efficient, or what?

I've a mountain to tackle today....having persuaded youngest son to remove the detritus form his bedroom floor, he brought 3 Ikea bags full of dirty washing down yesterday

 

Still at least you can see his floor now.

Damn you all I have to do laundry this weekend. I don't do laundry. I used to have a husband who did it, after I kicked him out I managed to wash it and got a cleaner who ironed. Now the washing machine etc is in Mums kitchen - I do the garden she does the laundry (actually she also acts as housekeeper - managing the cleaner etc).

 

Of course she's gone off to sea leaving me and James here alone - we are going to Centre Parcs next week and some stuff needs washing! I've managed to keep us mostly in the same outfits all week (lots of muddy garden clothes!) BUT I don't have a lot of casual clothes (they only fit for like 6 weeks at the moment) and I've managed to get both my fleece dirty (I was taking it off yesterday and emptying the pockets - I felt something in one and patted it to see what it was - of course it was an egg!!!) and my 3 in one coat. So I have to work out the washing machine and try and remember where I stashed my iron (I can only iron with steam Mum hates water being put in hers).

 

Actually now I'm thinking I don't need this stuff till Monday morning - do launderettes actually do service washes and iron your stuff???

There are ironing services avaliable, but your launderette should do them although they are costly. They usually charge by weight or by 'the bag'. We hve to get our duvets washed in the launderette as our washing machine isnt big enough!.

 

I've just given up with ironing alltogether. I used to iron everything, pants socks, teatowels. If it didnt melt it got ironed. Now after child No. 3 I gave up. We all go round in line dried crispy clothes with peg marks .

I use an ironing service for OH's shirts... the rest gets neatly folded and put away without ever seeing an iron... the occasional dress or skirt goes with OH's shirts too, but I hardly ever do ironing, it's the one job I find impossible to do with a baby or toddler constantly pulling on my legs...

I know you'll all laugh but I love ironing. I was trained to "iron propperly" whilst spending a few years in the Army (Royal Signals). Ironing would be my household chore of choice.

 

Football/Golf on the TV or the Stereo blasting whilst ironing "Quality Time"

My OH is an ace ironer Find some sport on the TV and he is happy as larry OH is ex RAF so maybe that is why he is trained so well. I once ironed the creases in his smart uniform trousers and ended up with 3 creases on each leg I never did them again

 

I don't mind ironing but I always leave the duvet covers, can't stand doing them.

I don't understand this concept of doing the ironing all in one go I iron on a 'need to use' basis so it is never really a chore as such. DH does all his own ironing Life is much too short to iron tea towels and knickers

I also think that we change our clothes too much, although I understand that kids can get very mucky and need clean clothes every day.

Clash city rocker..I love ironing too. Nothing more rewarding than a fresh pilr of ironed folded clothes & crisp sharp creases in sleeves! I find ironing relaxing! I just couldn't wear anything that hadn't been ironed, it just doesn't look finished properly!

I do my ironing in 2 lots during the week, usually takes me 1/2 hour at a time. i have to be "in the mood" to do it, though.

I did it this morning- i have only just switched the computer on so that I would be able to get some housework done beforehand

 

I like washing clothes, I'm good at that bit
