Well I'm afraid I got on my soapbox and this is what I wrote....

 

I fully support the applicant in her application to build a community garden. It will be of benefit to the whole community regardless of income or social position. In a world of decreasing green spaces what a fantastic opportunity to inject a sense of community into the middle of Hertfordshire. I also think the garden could be used as a reminder to those who think they can ride roughshod over the normal member of the public, that "little people" can be "big people" if they all stand together. The owner of the above property supports and is chief executive of a company that cares not a jot for public opinion, animal welfare or communities as can be seen by his and their continued bulldozing of other peoples homes and attempts to monopolize the shopping public at the expense of the British Farmer and his livestock, not to mention the average person. This fine example of making people think about their community and about providing for others at a cost to yourself should not be missed. Knock down the mansion which caters for a small number, build the garden and make history AND put the community first

Nice little earner for whoever owns the properties that are to be demolished. Tesco pay 150% of the current market value if they want to build where your home is, so I suspect the local council is sitting pretty if they own these properties. Tesco will also have to fork out for some local community project and also new road layouts etc.

 

I don't know the area but is the football stadium moving completely? It would be interesting to see the planners reasons for passing the application

 

Mrs B, I don't think the planners would be too swayed by the opinions of people from outside the area of the application. I suspect that particular property is probably on a nice green plot so nothing much would be gained from pulling down a decent 30's property. I am guessing the application will fail, clever idea though

As much as I agree totally with the other posts - this land is being bought predominantly to build a new stadium for Everton Tesco's maybe putting planning permission for their own store but Everton has wanted the move for ages - Tesco's is just getting in on the act.

 

Everton and Liverpool stadiums are literally next door to each other and both teams need to move in order to expand. Everton were originally thinking of going to Kings dock and then the option of Kirkby came up. I don't think that it is in question that this area of Liverpool would benefit from such a move as it will no doubt provide much needy employment for a very deprived area but there is always a price to pay and I would hate to be in that position.

I find it extremely ironic that Tesco are destroying this woman's home and community while at the same time opening stores in America under the name 'Fresh and Easy' and sweetening the communities they open in with donations to local causes/charities. Tesco are after world domination and they don't care how they do it.

 

They have a terrible reputation for how they treat their staff. Their stores in China actually kill live turtles (inhumanely) or let customers take them home to do it themselves. Can you imagine that happening with chicken in this country!?

I wonder how many people who are up in arms about the turtles eat crab, lobster, mussels or plenty of other things that are boiled alive. I'm not saying I agree with it but who chooses whre lines are drawn. Obviously different cultures have different lines.

 

I think we really need to know more info as to why the council approved the planning. Surely they weighed it all up and came to a conclusion. I'm not going to slam Tescos just for being Tescos I like a little more oomph behind my argument with them.

If Tesco wanted to raze my home to the ground to make way for selling their cheap, intensively reared chicken I'd be incandescent with rage.

 

I really feel for this woman and her community and would feel the same whichever company wanted to do this but because it's Tesco, it makes it even worse IMO.

Liverpool City Council don't have a great record where planning applications are concerned by the way. They sold the land where the Cavern Club was located to a developer to build a shopping centre and car park! The Cavern Club that is there now is not the original one, it was moved across the road. The cellar bit is the same but not the building above ground. They have just got rid of a lovely boho area of Liverpool where there were some great unique shops (one of my favourites in fact 'Quiggins') and sold it to developers to build homogenous big chain stores. They're also trying to sell off the old 'Garden Festival' waterfront land which was gifted to the city by Michael Heseltine in perpetuity, to developers to build apartments! Therefore I don't really trust their decisions where planning is concerned.

Looks like the planning hasn't been approved yet and is not a foregone conclusion either. Local politics mean the decision may be put back to July to avoid the forthcoming local elections. I am not familiar with the area but it looks like the decision will be made by planners in Knowlsey (sp?), there is to be a bit of a retail park with other shops too, by the look of it.

Down here they managed to finish what Hitler started and rip the heart out of the city, pulling down all the bits his bombs didn't hit They still haven't got it right, the Bullring is an awful shopping centre, expensive to rent in and full of the same old high street faces. I don't go there, horrid place
