cluckbok
Do any of you leave a radio on outside for your chooks to jive to? We just thought it may be a good idea, keep them company a bit of nice chit chat and music to keep them occupied while we out
Tessa the Duchess
No I don't. I do remember a tv series called 'Pie in the Sky' about a chef/detective who kept chickens and left a radio on in their chicken house on the Classic FM channel Tessa
cluckbok
The breeder we got them from had a radio on for them, we thought it was quite funny. Groovy chooks eh!
Egluntyne
I love the idea of them jiving! I have left the radio outside for them to listen to the Archers and Gardeners Question time. They love Woman's Hour!
feemcg
I put the radio on in the garage if I'm popping out for a wee while - it's to hopefully deter foxes though.

bronze
Not very Environmentally friendly is it. I'm fairly sure its not a natural part of a chickens habitat and they can survive quite well without it.
Trapper
A friend of mine has 30 chickens in his very large garden and he leaves a radio on all day. He lives in a very rural area and has many foxes, however he has not lost any hens as he beleives that with the radio on and tuned into a chat show rather than music, foxes think that people are about and do not come near the chickens. Guest
Not very Environmentally friendly is it.... I suppose you could use a wind up radio, we have a wind up torch which works very well. We don't put a radio on for them as i think it would annoy the neighbours and I quite like listening to the garden birds and the general sounds of nature and I think the girls like a bit of peace and quiet too don't know why i'm worried about the neighbours, the bloke opposite keeps revving and messing about with his motorbike and has his radio on at the moment and it's driving me mad! His flamin terrier dog was running about the close yesterday and growling at our gate at the girls. He has the largest house in the close and struts about his boundaries every weekend. We call him 'lord of all he surveys'. Never spoke to him but we don't like him!
