bit sad about my dog

Recommended Posts

I really feel for you.

Some years ago we had a robbery while we were out. I returned home with my 3 small children and expected to be greeted at the door by our cocker spaniel, Markie. The front door opened and no dog, or even the sound of a dog. He had been hit over the head and was out cold, shut in the diningroom while these mindless thugs ransacked my house. We took him to the vet but the concussion he suffered was a pre-cursor to blindness which happened within weeks of the robbery. He was seven years old. They had hit him so hard they damaged his eyes.

I was lucky in that he lived for another 5 years and managed to find his way around (with the help of our second dog, purchased after the event) but he was never the same and hated strangers coming to the front door for the rest of his life.

Needless to say, the burglars were never found - lucky for them because I don't think I could have controlled myself knowing what they had put my dog through. Anyone who injures a dumb animal must be so evil....

My thoughts are with you.

That's terrible Roxanne :(

Not the same thing at all, but when Rosie was small, we were exercising our lurcher in the park at the bottom of our road, and there was a group of ne'erdowells drinking in the park with their dogs. One of their dogs came over and started to bother Jezebel, so I got her on the lead and put myself between Rosie and this dog. I asked the owners to call it off, but they gave me loads of abuse; their dog tore into 'bel, who was cowering behind me while I grabbed Rosie out of the way. It was very hard to defend 'bel while trying to keep Rosie safe.

Jezebel was bitten and needed stitches, Rosie was screaming so I marched over the road to the police station to see one of my friends and they went over and arrested the 'botherers'. I was mad as hell, but it took both 'bel and Rosie ages to get over it.

These people had thought it hilarious and were jeering and calling after me. Any sort of animal cruelty and people not controlling their animals makes me mad

Oh Bertie McS, I've only just read through this thread and I feel so sad for you and your family and the family dog.

I'm sat here and I feel sick at what people in our society can do to an animal, and it certainly seems that it was a reason for his sudden deterioration.

I can only hope that a strong enough case can be brought by the police to result in a conviction. It will be distressing if/when it gets to a court case but remember that there are so many of us here that will be there for you.

Sending hugs

A

xx
