Mrs Frugal
A bit of a long shot but a good friend of mine died a few weeks ago and I've just been contacted by his daughter as the burial ground are wanting to charge them £200 for a headstone carved on a cross section of tree trunk. They look something like this but with the person's name and date of birth and death on... This seems pretty OTT for a slice of tree trunk and they just can't afford this so I've said I'll ask around to see if there's a cheaper alternative. Does anyone know of any wood carvers who would be able to produce something similar for a lower price? ubereglu
This is an interesting topic Kate! How about looking for local carvers and the prices of a nice piece of hardwood, just a suggestion.
Mrs Frugal
Yes, I'll look locally Liz. There might be someone listed. I wondered if anyone carved for a hobby who might like a little project to work on.
bronze
Might be worth asking on INEBG
AnnieP
Sounds an awful lot of money! Don't know anyone Kate, but it would probably be cheaper to buy a wood burning kit thing, you know, where you can brand it? I could probably supply a cross section of an oak tree, if that helps: Had a fella to cut up my fallen one on Monday, and he has left lots of bits for horse jumps... Snowy
Doesn't Phil Revnev do a bit of woodworking? It is a nice idea.
