Our Black Rock, Roast, laid her first egg today. Really proud chook mummy 34g and a cream slightly speckled egg - can only just see a few speckles in the pictures. Put it next to some from the local farm to see the size comparism.

I was so surprised, I was sure it would be browner as the breeder said brown eggs - I suppose this still counts as brown as not white

 

Do you think we will get another tomorrow or will she leave it a few days. So proud of her

I think they class everything other than 'white' as brown, or so I was told may be wrong though.

 

She's a clever little cutie pie, I bet she was rightly proud of herself!

She just seemed to come out and get on with life - didn't even make a noise when she laid the egg. I was waiting for a big squawk - perhaps she is leaving that for the 70g one she is going to lay for me tomorrow

Congratulations . Clever Roast . My Rhode Island Red Molly lays eggs just that colour!

 

You may not get an egg tomorrow but it shouldn't take her more than a few days to get into the way of laying every day .

I have one which also lays lighter eggs and the other 2 lay brown ones - they are all black rocks too. Not sure who lays what between 2 of them as they are so so alike

Not if I get my way You will have made my DH very happy - that is his chicken and he named it, the humourist in him He has been most put out that no-one yet had commented on the poor chicken's name

 

May she live to a ripe age for a chicken, produce lots of eggs and munch lots of corn and grass
