Chooks Aloud
Lemon Balm is growing all over the place - I keep pulling it out and composting it but is there anything that can be made with the stuff? Karen
Guest
i got some lemon balm on freecycle, we've put it in a pot so it doesn't take over. here you go http://www.superbherbs.net/Lemonbalm.htm and i've just read it's good for repelling flies so might move the pot near the chicken run. If they eat it, will have to move it back poste haste
Guest
you could perhaps give some away, maybe on here or on freecycle too?
Chooks Aloud
Too late for that - I've composted most of it, but it does keep growing back. I've read the article and it's given me food for thought. Thanks Karen
fluffymuppet
I cottoned on to lemon balm tea last year - easy to make, tasty and really good for you. Supposed to be relaxing and to be anti-viral, so it helps with sore throats etc, and good for an unsettled tummy. I also tried making lemon balm syrup, but we didn't get round to using it! I'm encouraging more to grow this year, for a longer supply of tea.

fluffymuppet
I've got your book, it's great! Thanks I'm going to be on Radio Solent this Sunday, talking about it and veggie gardening: http://www.bbc.co.uk/hampshire/content/articles/2006/11/30/solent_good_life_feature.shtml I think you can listen via the website, so you don't have to be in that area. Guest
I know it's aimed at kids but I'm 37 and really appreciated the simplicity of the instructions as it's our first year growing our own! here's some pics of what we've achieved so far, we only have a small garden but have tons growing in it and we have a greenhouse from freecycle! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=26024&l=e9250&id=568396756 these pics were taken a few months ago, the veg patch is now bursting with green, I must update the pics soon. fluffymuppet
It looks like it's all going really well! Those raised beds are lovely, very well built
Lewis
I've composted most of it, but it does keep growing back. If you are composting it could that be why it is growing back? I read that some weeds can't be composted for the same reason.

Guest
i'd let you have some of mine but it's a bit small at the moment. It's in the plastic pot at the front! We got it from freecycle and it was even smaller when we got it
Keanie Bean
I managed to get some off of Freecycle too, although the lady originally told me it was Mint . I'm sure I saw a recipie for using it somewhere that looked good. I'll have a look. Sarah.x

Guest
I also have loads! and it spreads like crazy but I have never used any of it for anything. Except as part of my winning herbs entry at last years village show.
Helen&Lee
Except as part of my winning herbs entry at last years village show. Me too! I don't use for anything either, but its right by the gate as I go into the garden - the dogs race past it and I get a blast of scent as I go in.....moving onto a mint scent as they brush past that on the corner. Helly Welly
Though the chickens ate the lemon balm, they don't touch the mint which is growing right in front of the doors to the summerhouse so we get a lovely waft everytime we go in and out of the summerhouse.
