gary.lane
We're new to both rabbits and Eglus but have bought an Eglu for our two dwarf lionheads as it seems to offer the ebst of all worlds and real stretching room on a day to day basis. We leave the rabbits to decide if the wwant to be in the nest or the run all day every day. They generally stay in the run even huddling into a corner of it outside at night time. Urban foxes have tried hard but so far failed to penetrate and the rabbits just flee into the nest if they're threatened. The only thing is that we don't have grass so we have the eglu and run on a patio. We will be following Omlet's advice and getting a deep sand box so they can enjoy digging. However, is it OK that they spend almost all day sitting on a cold patio floor. We have tried laying some cardboard down for them to use as a soft area but they seem to look at it with disdain. Should we be concerned that they're on the patio or do something else to alleviate the cold?
Chicken on a mission
If the rabbits are used to beig outside all day and still have access to the eglu then the cold shouldn't be a problem. Just think of all those bunnies that are kept inside with only the occasional forrage outside. Having something they can dig in is definately a good idea to fulfil a natural instinct so what about a big deep cat litter tray full of earth? spacedhopper
Id say they are usually ok on the patio, they dont really suffer from being hot or cold because they are very adaptable, but they dont like draughts (i dont mean the boardgame) as long as they have somewhere to go to get out of the draught they are usually happy. Being on the patio will help keep their nails short too.
