Chickens too quiet this morning!

Recommended Posts

They I was rudely awoken at 5:20 yesterday morning - followed by loads of noise for 3 hours!

Now at 6:30 there is no noise, and I'm starting to worry something is wrong with them!

I had covered the shed windows up and put shading on the walk in run, but didn't shut them in the shed overnight afterall.

Maybe just that extra bit of shading makes all the difference.

I spoke too soon! They have just started making a racket - but at least I got an extra hour's sleep!

I did speak to my neighbour nearest the chickens yesterday. She said they can't hear them at all, and that she likes the sound of chickens anyway. So I think we do become over sensitive to their noise - ike when you have a screaming baby it just seems to be sooo loud!

Actully they have gone quiet again :?

So far mine don't make a noise in the morning until they hear me unlocking their run at 6.30 they then squawk for that Cube door to be opened  Quiet as mice as far as I can gather until then - but they are at the top of the garden so maybe I wouldn't hear them anyway

I feel guilty as I posted a comment yesterday about my girls being really noisy and today they are as quiet as mice, quite happy to stay in their run and scratch around :?:!:

Just proving me wrong I guess - have just let them out and they are being so well behaved today. Did someone steal my girls overnight :?::D

My partner let the chooks out into the garden at approx 7pm this morning. Henrietta is broody and got turfed out too....... she then proceeded to squark noisily at the top of her voice while other half walked around after her angrily shusshing at her! it did make me laugh. As if Henrietta cares about being shushhed at!

Although the noise can wake us up (ours are just under our bedroom window!) and sounds so, so loud, I don't think it actually travels very far. My neighbours say they occasionally hear them, but it's not at all loud. Doesn't stop me worrying though!

That reminds me of a poem by Adrian Henri called "Tonight at Noon" ;)

Anyway, ours were quiet this morning too, either that or I slept through it!

Something alarmed my lot yesterday morning and Olive BOK BOK BOKK'ed at the top of her lungs at 6am. Of course, as soon as I had staggered half asleep, heart pounding, down to the bottom of two flights of stairs she stopped.

Then this morning, at 5am, 5.20am and 5.30am our stupid smoke alarm decided to spontaneously go off for no good reason.

We used to have old battery ones (smoke alarms, not chickens) which worked fine. When we had the loft converted we had to comply with EU regulations and fit this stupid all-in-one system wired up to the electricity supply, which goes off whenever there's the tiniest interruption to the electricity.

Don't get me started on EU regulations

My neighbours two doors down have got a couple of digs in at our chickens via their son - who is in my sons class at school. he says that his mum is going to shoot our chickens - what nice people!!! (not). However - they must be the noisiest people about - what with Trampolines, noisy talking, pressure washers/mowers early on sunday mornings etc....then to top it all off - their builders arrived last tuesday at 9am with a pneumatic drill to start on their extension!!!!

What good timing - just a day after I return from hospital with an order to rest for at least three weeks!!!!!!!!!

Give me bok bok bok anytime!

Louise
