Wormery disaster!

Recommended Posts

I finally got round to emptying our wormery and was looking forward to loads of lovely black crumbly worm compost.

I feared the worst when I couldnt budge the thing.

I seems the drainage tap at the bottom had become blocked. I always leave it open to drain into a bucket and then use the liquid collected to feed the garden.

The wormery was full of lovely smelling watery gunk :vom::vom::vom::vom: and all the worms have drowned :(:(:(

So we have just had the unenviable task of emptying the putrid stinking sludge into the compost bins. :vom:

I had to drain all the liquid into the main drains. Not the most environmentally friendly thing to do but I didn't really have much choice

Anyway we mixed the smelly gunk into our compost bins and mixed it all up with some hemcore to dry it out, bokashi bran and then cased it with finished compost from the bottom of the bins.

Hopefully it will work out and compost down ok.

I have another container to grow spuds in now

I am going to invest in a can-o-worms type wormery instead, I do not want to go through that again.

Kev.

After several years with no problems with my wormeries (I have 2 - a Can O Worms and a Waste Juggler) I found out yesterday morning that the worms in the Waste Juggler have died. I think they overheated. :( The ones in the Can O Worms are, thankfully, fine.

So this morning I have the same job - cleaning out the wormery - and then I'll set them both up somewhere cooler, either the shed or the garage.
