Lisastyal
I have seen on here that one tip to break the habit of a broody hen is to put one of those blue freezer packs in the nesting box to cool down their body temp. I got some yesterday and they are nice and frozen now but my question is : Do I wrap them in a towel or anything or put them in just as they are? Dont want frostbite on my chickens?!!! HENthusiastic
HI. I've tried the ice pack thing. I wrapped them in a teatowel, just to stop the frost bite. Good luck with it. It didn't stop my henrietta! She just defrosted the ice pack, warmed it up and then tried to hatch some imaginary ice chicks! HOpe it works for you. The Dogmother
I've tried that method myself, but it didn't work for me either. I find that a broody cage is the only answer. I have Ruby in it at the moment.
HENthusiastic
Henrietta broke out of the broody cage! She actualy managed to loosen a piece of wood that was nailed in place! I've given up. I've decided to just turf her off the nest when I can and try to tempt her to eat as much as possible adding poultry spice to try to keep her well and healthy. It cant last much longer...... surely............ its just over 3 weeks now.
Scooby
I tried a freezer pack wrapped in a tea towel for my broody hen Florence. It worked a treat! After being sat on it for a day she was back to normal and has even come back into lay this week

Tessa the Duchess
I also tried the icepack, but Annie just went broody on the roosting bars Lots of luck anyway. Tessa
Egluntyne
The ice block method worked well for me. I just out it in the nest box and covered it with Aubiose. I changed it for a fresh one every four hours or so, and she snapped out of it within 4 days.
Lisastyal
well ill have to try tomorrow as when my OH was fitting a new carpet yesterday he seems to have left the freezer unplugged! Ive now taken the opportunity to defrost it but due to that the ice packs are still nice and warm! Will see if it works tomorrow!
